Pause

I am having trouble loading the rest of the pictures I want you to see, so it'll have to wait. I figure I can at least tell you what's up with the babe...

I haven't yet blogged about it, but for the last month or 2, Amelie has been really into zerberts (the blow-on-your-skin-fart-noises). She has gotten so good at them, she could make an 8 year-old boy blush. Usually she does them while she's nursing. She's a character.

Last week, she started snorting out of nowhere. I did catch a couple pictures of her doing it, although most of them are blurry because she's so busy. Of course, I can't post them now...

Tonight, she actually combined her 2 noises, for a whole new sound: snort-zerbert-snort-zerbert-snort-zerbert.

Another funny... for the last week or so she's been doing the "look, ma! no hands" trick while standing. Don't get too excited, she's not standing unsupported; she uses her head or torso. So, basically she will find something to stand against, and just drop her hands to her side, hanging limp, as if it's a real trick. Variation: picture me laying on my back or side, Amelie standing next to me, bent at the waist NURSING, with her arms hanging down. As if that weren't enough, her body is all over the place, but her head is stuck to me. She seems to think nursing-time is busy-time.

More pics to come soon...

Popeye

This was Amelie's first time eating fresh spinach. She's had it pureed in a baby food mix before, but never fresh. Chris said she looked "betrayed".

Well, I was going to post pictures last night, as I finally loaded 300 pics from my camera to the computer, but just as I was getting started, Amelie woke up (at 11p) and stayed awake till 3AM!!!! Grrr...

Daily Grind

Is it normal (or more importantly, is it OK) for babies to grind their teeth? She's only got 3, and she's already driving me crazy with that sound! Argh!

Still miserable

Poor baby... tonight while trying to get her to sleep (again, for 2 hours), I was trying to help her get latched on, and my finger bumped into her gums. I haven't heard her cry so hard EVER. I felt so bad! I almost got the Orajel, but she stopped crying before I got it. :(

Yay!

Chris got Amelie to sleep, and she stayed asleep! It only took him like 5 minutes! Woo-hoo!

Crab walk

Amelie is teething in a big way today. We haven't seen her this crabby ever, and for the last 2 days she's had a high temp. Her other top tooth is so ready to come through. She has been so needy today, and I had to sling her almost all day. I don't mind slinging her, but my back is killin'. Right now (12:45am) Chris is trying to get her to sleep, as my attemts for the last 2 hours have been futile. She fell asleep twice for me, but woke up when I put her down the first time, and then when Squeak meowed the second time. Argh. At one point, she was so crabby, and in pain, that Chris went to Target to buy Orajel for babies, but by the time he got home, she was acting just fine. We decided not to use it, as she didn't seem to need it anymore, and the active ingredient is a relative of cocaine. We're not desperate enough to give her that yet.

For anyone who is interested, I started a new blog for more personal stuff, because I don't feel like this is the appropriate place for me to go off on tangents that don't have to do with Amelie. So my personal blog address is: www.mamakati.blogspot.com

Praying for rest for the babe...

Yadda, yadda...

Well, as far as I know, our place was officially listed today, although I can't find the listing online yet. Not sure what that means. We listed it a bit higher than we thought we could get for it, so we have some room for negotiation. If we don't get much traffic in the next 2 weeks, we will reduce the price. Pray for us that it sells for the asking price. We could really use the extra money! We will definitely be able to pay off our wedding (all of our debt), but we want to have some money to save as well.

Speaking of moving (kindof)... I'm trying to get a list together of the things we will need when we have a real house. So far, all I can think of is a lawnmower and a chunk of money in the bank. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Chris' job has been less than enough recently. Not only is it the slow season for restaurants, but Fhima's bad press hasn't been good for business or for the restaurant's dealings with it's vendors. Apparently, they aren't able to use checks to pay for food, so they have to pay cash, and they end up not having enough to pay their servers. Rediculous. So now Chris is being paid for his tips in bad checks. This doesn't pay the bills, as you can imagine. Last week God sent someone (I believe) into Fhima's to tell him that another restaurant is hiring servers. They are union, which means they pay twice as much hourly and they offer benefits. If Chris can get a job there, it would be the answer to our prayers. And this restaurant is established enough to not have to worry about the checks clearing. Another thing to keep us in your prayers for...

And speaking of paying the bills... this week I've been watching Oprah's Debt Diet series, and it's so interesting to see how 70% of the country lives paycheck to paycheck just to afford all the luxuries we think we need. The people they had on the show were in debt more than their yearly salaries, some almost double! Ouch! These people were throwing away their bills just so they didn't have to see how much they owed. We throw ours away, but only because they come out of our account automatically. Anyways, they laid out a plan to beat debt, and I think it's worth checking out. I think we're going to see what it says on the website. I hate having debt.

So I started knitting again, like I've been itching to do. Yesterday I finished (sewed in the hanging strings) a "blankie" that I started for Amelie before she was born. I call it a blankie, because I made up the pattern, and it ended up being WAY too small to be functional as a real blanket. So it will either become her security blanket, or an expensive doll blanket. If I learn to crochet, I think I'll make it bigger by crocheting a thick edge around it. Today, I started making a cotton washcloth for our kitchen (we only have one right now!), but decided that it was becoming way too much work to just be a washcloth. So I'm making it a bib for Amelie instead. I started it so I could get the hang of knitting again before comitting to a complicated or expensive project, and I'm happy to say that knitting came back to me with no problem at all. Yay.

Conversation whiplash... FYI: I have never replied on the blog to a comment left by anyone (that I can remember). As of now, I will be replying here instead of emailing a response to the comment...

Number Three

Amelie cut her 3rd tooth today! Her top left tooth came in, finally. She was drooling up a storm the last couple days, and that bugger showed itself tonight. I think #4 is soon to follow.

More to come soon, and some pics, too. We are listing our house tomorrow, so we will finally have some free time to do things we want to do, like blog! :) And I'm taking up knitting again.

By the way, Amelie turned 10 months this week. I have less than 2 months to plan a killer first birthday party for her. Time to hire a planner and caterer and decorator and clown and rent a pony and... yeah, right.

A Taste of Heaven

Last night Chris and I were enjoying a picnic dinner in the living room, while watching The Miracle Worker on PBS. Amelie was happily playing right by us while we ate. I tore my eyes away from the movie for a sec to see why Amelie was so quiet all of a sudden... she had both fists tight up against her mouth... eating Chris' frosted brownie! This was her first taste of chocolate, or anything sugary, and of course she loved it!

The Neverending Story

We have been lost in a sea of paint this last couple of weeks. After our "free day" when we gave away all of our excess baggage, we started with the hard stuff. Last saturday we had some people over for a painting "party" and got the main level painted beige. Yay. But it's sellable. Everything looks fresh and newer. Then we did the same thing wednesday, and got a little more painting done, and a lot of packing. We rented some portable storage units to store our stuff until we move, so those are almost full and ready to go. Yesterday was our final full day of work, and Chris' mom, Connie, and I cleaned the main level. It has never looked so good. We even wiped down the tops of the doorways. They were so gross. Connie took the upstairs toilet outside to clean it (it was already removed so we could replace the bathroom floor), and she did a great job. Our poor neighbors... for the last week we've had junk outside, then the storage units, which take up 2 parking spots, then moving boxes just waiting to be packed, and finally, a woman cleaning a toilet in the parking lot. They will be happy to see us go, I'm sure.

Next on the agenda is our bedroom. It's a beautiful dark turquiose/peacock color, and we have to paint it the dreaded beige. I am sad to see this color go. Oh well. I'll have another house soon, and then I can go nuts with color again. But I digress... We have to paint the bedroom, replace the carpet, replace the bathroom floor (today), and get the upstairs liveable. Then we do touch-ups with paint, replace outlet covers, etc., caulk the countertops and bathroom, clean the carpets, move Luke's stuff to Jenie's house, clear out the garage and patio... and maybe, if we have time and energy, scrub and paint the basement. All by wednesday.

So back to going nuts with color in our new house... I want a black bathroom for sure. The rest is TBD.
